Mother Teresa was born on August 26, 1910. She was baptized on August 27, 1910 in Skopje, Macedonia. Mother Teresa had a strong interest for helping people even when she was a young child but other then that not much is known about her childhood. Mother Teresa's real name was Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu she changed her name after she became a nun. She named herself after Saint Therese of Lisieux. She got the name "Mother" because she loved and cared for children so much. That is how she got the name Mother Teresa. When Mother Teresa was 18 years old she went to Ireland to become a nun. After that Mother Teresa started working as a teacher. She taught history and geography at Saint Mary which is in India to Bengali families who couldn't afford school especially for girls and soon became the principal. One day when she was riding a train in 1946, she got a calling from Christ that changed her life. She realized that she should quit teaching and aid the sick and poor in the slums of Calcutta, India. Mother Teresa also opened some charities to help the sick and poor called "Missionaries of Charities". She died on September 5, 1997 when she was 87 because of a lung, heart, and kidney problem and was made a saint in 2003. Mother Teresa received many rewards. They are listed below.
